The Custom Thunderbird was designed by Harry Bentley Bradley. It is based on the 1967 Ford Thunderbird and is one of the "Original 16" Hot Wheels.
Released in 1968, it was produced with Redline (RL) wheels until 1969.
The Custom Thunderbird features an opening hood and a unique "loop" front bumper design that frames the grille, which was a distinctive feature of the real car. Early versions have vent windows molded into the side glass, which were later removed. Some versions also have a sunroof molded into the roof.
As one of the "Original 16," it was one of the larger, more luxurious models in the initial lineup, distinct from the smaller pony cars.
It was made in all Spectraflame colors. The variations with and without the sunroof and vent windows are of interest to collectors.
