The Grass Hopper was designed by Paul Tam. It is a fantasy show rod with an insect-like appearance.
It was first released in 1974 as part of the "Flying Colors" series. Model 7622 with Redline (RL) wheels is from its debut year.
The casting's most unique feature is its large, green-tinted canopy that opens and closes, resembling the wings of a grasshopper. It has a long, narrow body with an exposed engine and six wheels.
It belongs to a family of insect-themed fantasy cars from the 1970s, such as the "Evil Weevil" and the "Sand Witch."
The original 1974 release was in lime green enamel with multi-colored graphics. It was also produced in a darker green.
