The Rodger Dodger was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on a 1973 Dodge Challenger SE, famous for its massive, exposed engine.
It was first released in 1974 as part of the "Flying Colors" series. Model 8259 with Redline (RL) wheels is from that debut year.
The most defining and iconic feature of the Rodger Dodger is the enormous chrome engine and supercharger that dominates the car, bursting through the hood. The original release was in enamel plum (often called "Enamel Blue" by collectors) with red, yellow, and white flame tampos. It has become one of the most famous and beloved Hot Wheels castings of all time.
While based on a Challenger, the exaggerated engine makes it a standout. It is similar in spirit to other over-the-top muscle car castings like the "King Kuda."
After its Redline debut, it was produced for many years with Blackwall wheels. It has been released in countless colors and has been selected as a Treasure Hunt multiple times. It was re-tooled in 2005.
