The Custom Firebird was designed by Harry Bentley Bradley. Based on the 1967 Pontiac Firebird, it is one of the "Original 16" Hot Wheels.
It was released in 1968 and produced with Redline (RL) wheels until 1969.
The Custom Firebird has an opening hood. It is easily identifiable by its distinctive Pontiac "beak" grille integrated into the front bumper. Like other early models, U.S. and Hong Kong versions exist with minor differences.
As one of the "Original 16," it is a direct contemporary of its GM cousin, the Custom Camaro. It is the first Pontiac ever made by Hot Wheels.
It was made in all original Spectraflame colors. Green is a very common color for this model. A very rare version exists with a white enamel finish, which was a test color.
