The Chevy Monza 2+2 was designed by Larry Wood. It's based on the Chevrolet Monza, a subcompact car from the 1970s that was popular in IMSA racing.
This casting was first released in 1975 as part of the "Flying Colors" series. Model 7671 with Redline (RL) wheels is from this first year of production.
The casting has a distinct "fastback" shape and often came with bold racing-themed tampos. The initial 1975 release was in dark blue enamel with red and yellow stripes and the number "7" on the sides. It has an opening hood.
It is similar in class and era to other castings like the "Poison Pinto" and the "Gremlin Grinder," which were also based on American subcompact cars.
After its blue debut, it was released in various other colors, including green and yellow. Some versions were produced with Blackwall wheels after the Redline era ended.
