The Beach Patrol was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the Jeep CJ-7, a civilian version of the famous military Willys Jeep, customized for lifeguard or beach patrol duties.
The casting was first released in 1981 under the name "Jeep CJ-7". It was renamed Beach Patrol for its 1985 "Real Riders" release, which corresponds to model number 4368.
This casting features an open-top Jeep design with a prominent roll bar. The Beach Patrol version from 1985 is white with red and blue "BEACH PATROL" and lifeguard cross tampos. Its standout feature is the rubber Real Riders tires, giving it a rugged, realistic look suitable for its beach theme.
This casting is directly related to its earlier identity as the Jeep CJ-7. It's also similar to the "Jeep Scrambler" casting, which is based on the longer-wheelbase CJ-8 pickup version.
As the Jeep CJ-7, it came in various colors. As the Beach Patrol, the 1985 Real Riders version is the most recognized. It was later released in the mainline with plastic wheels in a similar paint scheme.
