Backwoods Bomb
The Backwoods Bomb was designed by Larry Wood. It is a fantasy casting that represents a highly customized, old-fashioned sedan from the 1940s, modified into a quirky, backwoods-style hot rod.
This casting was first released in 1975 and was produced until 1979. The model 7670 with Redline (RL) wheels represents its initial release year.
The Backwoods Bomb has several unique and whimsical features. It has a massive, exposed front-mounted engine, a rumble seat in the rear that opens, and often came with a plastic pig or other farm animal accessory sitting in the rumble seat. The body has a textured, bumpy finish to simulate a rugged, well-used vehicle.
As a fantasy design, it is similar in spirit to other whimsical Larry Wood creations of the 1970s, such as the "T-Totaller" or the "Lil' Van." It shares a theme with other rustic hot rod castings.
The initial 1975 release was typically painted in green enamel. It was also released in yellow and orange. The color of the plastic animal accessory could also vary.
