The Corvette Stingray was designed by Larry Wood. This casting is based on the C3 generation Chevrolet Corvette, specifically the 1975 model year with its updated bumper design.
This casting debuted in 1976 as part of the "Flying Colors" series. Model 9241 with Redline (RL) wheels is from this inaugural year. This was a very popular casting and remained in production for many years.
The casting features an opening hood and accurately represents the "sugar scoop" recessed rear window and flowing fender lines of the C3 Corvette. The initial 1976 release was in a vibrant yellow with red and blue racing stripes and the number "8" on the sides.
Hot Wheels has made numerous C3 Corvette castings. This one is distinct from the "Custom Corvette" of 1968 and the heavily modified "'80s Corvette." It represents a stock version of the mid-70s car.
After its Redline debut, it was produced with Blackwall wheels for many years. It has been released in a vast number of colors, including a memorable all-black version from 1978. It was also released in the "Super Chromes" series.
