The Mercedes 380 SEL was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the W126 chassis Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a flagship German luxury sedan of the 1980s.
The casting debuted in 1983. Model 4363 is from the "Real Riders" series of that same year.
The casting captures the stately, understated lines of the 80s S-Class. The 1983 Real Riders version came in black with gold pinstripes, a very classic luxury car color scheme. Its defining feature is the rubber Real Riders tires on chrome 5-spoke wheels.
It is part of a group of 80s luxury sedans, including the Cadillac Seville and the Jaguar XJ6.
The mainline version released in 1983 was typically silver or gray. The Real Riders version is the premium release.
