The Bronco 4-Wheeler was designed by Larry Wood. It's based on the second-generation Ford Bronco (1978-1979), a full-size SUV known for its ruggedness.
This casting debuted in 1981. The model 1690 is from the 1982 "Real Riders" series.
The casting features a removable plastic rear roof (camper shell). The 1982 Real Riders version came in metalflake silver with blue and orange stripes and featured the signature rubber Real Riders tires with a knobby off-road tread, mounted on gray hubs.
This casting is similar to other off-road trucks and SUVs from the era, particularly the "Baja Breaker" (Chevy Blazer), as they were direct competitors in the real world and in the Hot Wheels lineup.
The initial 1981 mainline release was brown. It has been released in numerous color schemes over the years. The color of the removable top often differs from the body color, creating more variations.
