The Rescue Ranger was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the Jeep Cherokee (XJ), a revolutionary unibody SUV from the 1980s, customized as a lifeguard/rescue vehicle.
The casting first appeared in 1984 under the name "Jeep Cherokee." It was renamed Rescue Ranger for its 1986 release in the "Real Riders" series, which corresponds to model 2537.
The 1986 Real Riders version is typically yellow with "Rescue Ranger" and lifeguard tampos. It features knobby rubber Real Riders tires on chrome hubs and a plastic light bar on the roof.
It is a key 80s SUV casting, a contemporary of the Ford Bronco and Chevy Blazer models. It is directly related to its earlier "Jeep Cherokee" identity.
As the "Jeep Cherokee," it was released in several colors. The "Rescue Ranger" Real Riders version is a notable premium release.
