Designed by Larry Wood, the Front Runnin' Fairmont is based on a 1978 Ford Fairmont modified into a NASCAR-style stock car.
The Front Runnin' Fairmont was first released in 1982 as part of "The Hot Ones" series. The casting had its first run from 1982 to 1995.
This model is celebrated for its exceptional speed on gravity tracks. This performance is attributed to its metal body and base and the special Hot Ones (GHO) wheels, which had nickel-plated axles to reduce friction.
While Hot Wheels has produced many stock car models, the Front Runnin' Fairmont is distinct. The casting was later renamed "Race Ace" for a 1986 release. A re-tooled version was released in 2013 as the '81 Ford Fairmont.
The original 1982 release was red with a "Fireball Jr." flame tampo. Other versions include a blue model from a 1995 Sto & Go playset and a Nestle Crunch-themed car with Real Riders wheels.
