The Chaparral 2G was co-designed by Howard Rees and Larry Wood. It is based on the real Chaparral 2G Can-Am race car, known for its innovative aerodynamics, including a massive, high-mounted, driver-adjustable rear wing.
This casting was released in 1969 as part of the Grand Prix series. It was produced in 1969 and 1970 and came with Redline (RL) wheels.
The most unique feature is the large, movable plastic rear wing that can be tilted. The casting also features an opening rear engine cover revealing a detailed engine. It was produced in Spectraflame white (a creamy, pearlescent white) to match the real race car.
It is part of the Grand Prix series, which included other famous race cars of the era like the Lotus Turbine and McLaren M6A. It is the only Chaparral 2G casting by Hot Wheels.
Most were produced in Spectraflame white. Rare versions can be found in other Spectraflame colors from the factory. U.S. and Hong Kong versions have slight differences in the casting and the wing mechanism.
