This casting, more commonly known as the '80s Corvette, was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the C3 generation Chevrolet Corvette, specifically the body style from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The casting was first released in 1983. The model 3928 from that year was part of "The Hot Ones" series, indicated by its GHO (Gold Hot Ones) wheels. The name "Turbo Trax" refers to a specific playset it was associated with.
The 1983 "Hot Ones" version came in metalflake gold. Its defining features are the fast-rolling GHO wheels and its T-top roof design. A unique aspect of this casting is the large, exposed engine protruding from the hood, giving it a heavily modified "pro street" look rather than a stock appearance.
Hot Wheels has produced countless Corvette models from every generation. This C3 version is often compared to the stock '75 Corvette Stingray casting, but the exposed engine makes it visually distinct.
After its "Hot Ones" debut, it was released in the mainline series in various colors like red and blue. It was also featured in the "California Customs" series with vibrant paint jobs. A re-tooled version was created in 2011.
