Model History

Designer and Inspiration:

The Turbo Mustang was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on a 1980s "Fox Body" Ford Mustang, modified in the IMSA GTO racing style.

Historical Context and Production Years:

The casting debuted in 1982. Model 1125 was part of "The Hot Ones" series from that year, with GHO wheels.

Unique Aspects:

The casting features extremely wide "box" fender flares, a deep front air dam, and a large rear spoiler, mimicking the aggressive look of IMSA race cars. "The Hot Ones" version from 1982 came in black with racing graphics and was very fast on the track.

Similar Castings:

This is a heavily modified version of the Fox Body Mustang, very different from the stock "GT Racer" or "SVO" Mustang castings from the same era.

Variations and Special Editions:

After its "Hot Ones" debut, it was released in the mainline in various colors and racing liveries.
