Model History

Designer and Inspiration:

The Hot Bird was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the second-generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This is the original name for the casting later also referred to as the "'80s Firebird."

Historical Context and Production Years:

The casting first appeared in 1978. Model 2014 corresponds to its 1982 release in "The Hot Ones" series with GHO (Gold Hot Ones) wheels.

Unique Aspects:

The casting is famous for its large "screaming chicken" hood decal. "The Hot Ones" release from 1982 came in metalflake gold with a black bird graphic and featured the fast GHO wheels. It has a T-top roof and a shaker hood scoop.

Similar Castings:

It's the Pontiac counterpart to the second-generation Camaro Z28 casting.

Variations and Special Editions:

The initial 1978 release was black with a gold bird. The "Hot Ones" version is a key variation. It has been produced in many colors over the years.
