The Sunagon was designed by Larry Wood. It is based on the Volkswagen T3/T25 Transporter, also known as the Vanagon in the U.S.
The casting debuted in 1982 in the mainline series, which corresponds to model 3251 with Blackwall (BW) wheels.
The casting has a unique feature: a large, removable plastic sunroof panel in the middle of the roof. The initial release was typically orange with side stripes.
It is a contemporary of other van castings like the Ford Aerostar, but with a distinctive European, rear-engine design.
It was released in several colors, including blue and yellow. The color of the removable sunroof could also vary.
