The Hot Wheels GMC Motor Home was designed by Larry Wood. The design was based on the innovative GMC Motorhome produced from 1973 to 1978.
The casting debuted in 1977. The model from 1980, like the one specified, would have featured basic blackwall (BW) wheels. The casting has been used numerous times over the decades.
The casting is a faithful, scaled-down representation of the real-life vehicle. A particularly unique aspect of its history is the creation of approximately 30 special 24-karat gold-plated versions requested by GMC for their sales representatives.
This casting is quite distinctive. Over the years, it has been released under different names, including "Airport Transportation" and "Captain America Van."
The 1980 release was green. Early versions came in orange. Other notable editions include a dark green version for The Hot Ones series in 1983 and several versions in a 2000 McDonald's racing promotion. It has also been featured in premium lines like the 2007 Classics series.
